ValsFest 2016 Report

NATIONAL UNION OF PRESBYTERIAN STUDENTS-GHANA (UCC LOCAL)

 

REPORT PRESENTED BY PRE-VALS COMMITTEE ON VALSFEST 2016 HELD ON THE 12TH AND 13TH FEBRUARY,2016 AT AMOANDA AND UPJHS.

1.0 Preamble: With God nothing shall be impossible (Luke 1:37)

2.0 Introduction:

This is a report presented by the PRE-VALS committee which covers the two day program dubbed VALSFEST 2016. Attached to this report is the income and expenditure account of the committee.

3.0 THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMITTEE:

The committee was inaugurated on the 6th December, 2015 to officially commence it work. The Committee was made of 8 members. Each member had a designated portfolio to handle. The following are the members of the commitee;

2. Mabel Asante Addi - Secretary
3. Dominic Affo - Financial Secretary
4. Agnes Beatrice Gyebi - Hospitality
5. Seth Yaw Sie - Prayer Secretary
6. George Owusu - Organizer
7. Daniel Osei - Member
8. Sandra Kwakyewaa Animpong - member

The Committee was mandated to organize a Pre-valentine Day program for the union.

4.0 PROGRAMMES

4.1 Meetings: The committee met on Fridays for general meeting and Wednesday for a

prayer meeting. The committee had a steering committee which look at the issues as it came u

4.2 VALSFEST:

This was a two day mega festival which comprises of NUPS-G Valentine Day Donation and Valentine Night Special.

4.2.1 NUPS-G VALENTINE DAY DONATION:  

This donation was the maiden edition. The rationale behind this Donation was to help our younger siblings in the primary school with educational materials to supplement their learning needs. The committee chose Amoanda Light and Hope Preparatory school to do this donation exercise because the union had established a church there.

Before the donation, the committee, had feasibility study at the chosen School. The HeadTeacher of the school narrated the plight and the ordeal of the younger children to us. This became a burden to the Committee to support our younger siblings in the elementary school.

The union were brief about the plight of these pupils at Amoanda and they responded positively to us and give out the following items for the Donations; Exercise Books, Pens, Pencils, Eraser, Sharpeners, footwear, tin Fish, soaps, indomie, Chalk, Water, T-roll and  among others.

4.2.1.1 DONATION;

On the 12th of February, 2016. The committee members and few union members accompanied us to Amoanda for this donation. The items presented included Exercise Books, Pens, Pencils, Eraser, Sharpeners, footwear, tin Fish, soaps, indomie, Chalk, Water, T-roll and  among others.

The Head Teacher of the school received the items for the school and promised to share it accordingly to promote teaching and learning in the school.

4.2.2 VALENTINE NIGHT SPECIAL

This was the second day of the ValsFest, On the 13th of February, 2016.  It was an evening program. A night of Music, Poetry, Choreography, Dance, and Talk with the theme  craving for a love more than the Love of a woman; A model for the Christian Youth. 2 Sam 1:26 and the Venue was UPJHS.

The program started at 7:30pm and closed at 10:30pm and had an attendance of over 250

members. The main Speaker for the night was Dr. Isaac Newman Arthur, a medical Doctor at the Cape Coast Regional Hospital  and the Guest Artist was Baako Junior, gospel music and a union member.

There were ministrations from Jewels of His Crown and a Drama, Poetry and Choreography by the Golden Vessels. There was also a cake and champagne for February borns, chocolates for the members and photoshoot at the end of the program.

 
5.0 ACHIEVEMENT.

By the Grace of God, the Committee chalked a number of success. Notable ones are:

-Organizing a successful program

-Cake for February Borns

-Photoshoot.

-Able to Pubilize the program on Atl Fm and Ahomka Fm.

-Get surplus to the Budget

-Sponsorship from more than 4 companies to sponsor the event.

-Create a social media platforms for easy dissemination of information.

-Rebranding of the program

-All the committee members are very collaborative in organizing a successful program.

6.0 CHALLENGES

The committee also had some challenges.These are;

-The committee wasn't constituted early and so it became difficult to secure sponsorship.
-The committee were faced with financial difficulties.

7.0 RECOMMENDATION

 
It is therefore very imperative that we recommend some items to the union for consideration.

 
-The union should maintain the two days program dubbed ValsFest.

-At least one third of the committee should be maintained for the next committee for continuation.

-The committee should be given a seed capital to start their work after being inaugurated.

-the next committee should maintain the content of the programme

-the next committee should do well to seek sponsorship for the programme
